Project Description: Increase Patient Recruitment Through
More Effective Advertising
Case Study: Tava faced a challenge with Eastside Medical Services. The
company had the same core set of services for 21 years. Eastside offered clinical
treatment in depression, anxiety, obesity, Alzheimer’s, IBS, and insomnia. Two
decades after their inception, Eastside was facing the problem of patient recruitment.
When they had started out in 1981, they were pioneers in their field. By 2000, they
competed for patients with major hospitals and at least 30 other research facilities in
Manhattan alone. Eastside generally spent $150,000 per month on advertising. The
high cost of advertising in Manhattan, coupled with the low response rate to this high
priced investment, resulted in them eventually seeking guidance on how to effectively
promote themselves. After performing extensive market research, Tava was able to
find out how and where to position Eastside so that they would get the most return on
their advertising. By moving the company towards internet advertising and away from
print and radio, Eastside was able to cut their monthly advertising cost to $45,000
and increase their patient recruitment by 175%.
